IRELAND

In summer, 2011, we traveled to the Emerald Isle! After several wonderful days in Dublin, we spent some time exploring Knoth and Newgrange, parts of a World Heritage Site with 40 passage tombs built in 3200BC (before the Pyramids!). We spent several more days in Portnablagh, County Donegal before moving on to Northern Ireland. County Antrim was particularly special with visits to Mussenden Temple, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and the Giant’s Causeway. The latter is another World Heritage site comprised of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that followed an ancient volcanic eruption. Our last days brought us to Newcastle, County Down, where we explored Murlough National Reserve and the Tollymore National Forest before returning home.
